Hello, my name is Melissa Green and I am the President of the University of Calgary’s Education Students’ Association. I was fortunate enough to attend WestCAST in Brandon, Manitoba in 2011 where I had an amazing time meeting other student teachers from across western Canada and attending a number of fascinating sessions led by students, faculty and teachers. I am thrilled that the conference is coming to Calgary for 2012 and that the ESA is assisting with the preparations.
The ESA is a student-run organization dedicated to enhancing the experience of the students in the education program here at the University of Calgary. We are always looking for ways to offer additional educational and professional development opportunities to students, outside of regular classes. I know that the WestCAST conference is an excellent way for students to learn from others who have had different experiences, as well as an opportunity for students to showcase knowledge about their own experiences and ideas.
I encourage any students (as well as faculty and teachers) with innovative knowledge about engaging new ideas in education to consider presenting at this year’s conference. It is a valuable and rewarding experience which will benefit you throughout the rest of your career.
I look forward to see you all at WestCAST in Calgary in 2012!
